Gay dog saved from being put down – death sentence fear for ‘abnormal’ dog sex

Before I share this sad but true story with you I would like to make it clear that the RISKKO website respects the views and opinions of minorities and does not judge animals or people on the basis of their relationships with one another. If you love your partner, whether it be a man, woman, dog or bitch that is what counts and it is not for others to judge you on this basis.

Recently it came to my attention that a man in Tennessee had a very different philosophy with regard to the love life of his dog. The hound in question was a bulldog mixed breed and lived in Madison County, USA.

According to a report which I first read in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Germany, (for German readers this can be found here) the man had observed his dog involved in so-called ‘perverse’ behaviour and as a result wanted to dispose of it at the Rabies Control Centre in Jackson. Space in such centres is limited and this normally means that if a new owner cannot be found quickly the dog is exterminated. Put simply this dog faced the death penalty because he was accused of being gay.

The so-called ‘perverse’ behaviour referred to by the former owner involved his Bulldog (who was a male) mounting another male dog. The man declared that the dog was homosexual and he did not want anything to do with it.

For those of us who are more familiar with doggy relationships it is clear that this kind of activity is absolutely normal among male dogs and in no way reflects deviant or perverted tendencies. It is no more deviant or perverse than dogs eating each others poo!

Fortunately as a result of publicity via Facebook and the Internet many people became aware of the dog’s fate. According to an article in (which can be found – with photos – here) a regular visitor to the Rabies Centre wrote in the Internet: “His owner threw him away [because] he refuses to have a ‘gay’ dog! Don’t let this gorgeous dog die [because] his owner is ignorant of normal dog behaviour! He’s in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow [because] there is no room at the inn!”

Fortunately this did the trick. One lady vet wrote in Facebook that at the crack of dawn the next day she would be waiting outside of the Rabies Centre and intended to adopt the ‘big boy’ to ensure he found a new and caring home.

In fact this was not the only person interested in saving the dog. In the local newspaper (the Tennessean) an unnamed shelter employee was quoted as saying “I have had about 10 million calls this morning. It has been adopted already…..He’s in good hands.”

Fortunately a doggy love story with a happy ending. If you hear of any other heart wrenching canine stories please share them with me via the comments box below.

Now prepare yourself for an uplifting experience!
